President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev won Kazakhstan’s June 9 elections with 70
percent of the vote, while his closest challenger, Amirzhan Kosanov,
obtained around 16 percent. With the Central Asian nation’s transition
of power now complete, policymakers in the capital Nur-Sultan can focus
on improving the lives of 18 million Kazakhstanis. Part of their work is
maintaining respect and tolerance toward the country’s minorities and
religious diversity.
