Uzbekistan has recently commenced construction of a new airport in Tashkent, valued at $2.5 billion, as a symbol of the country’s reinvention. The project, slated to begin operations in 2029, aims to serve as Central Asia’s key aviation hub by supporting more than 40 take-offs and landings per hour and serving 20 million passengers annually. Economists predict that increased air traffic at the airport could generate $27 billion in annual revenue and create thousands of new jobs.

To achieve this ambitious goal, Tokyo and Seoul will be critical partners: Japan’s Sojitz Corporation, which has extensive experience in the aviation sector, has agreed to invest millions of dollars and share technical expertise. As for South Korea, the Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) signed a $24.5 million consulting contract to provide operational and service support for the development of the new Tashkent airport.

As services like the Royal Navy and US Navy aim to develop hybrid fleets to reduce reliance on and dangers to crewed vessels, L3Harris, Metal Shark and Red Cat step forward.

The revolution of autonomous systems is not occurring solely on land and in the air. Uncrewed surface vessels (USVs) and systems that can be integrated aboard these vessels – some of which are meant to defeat other uncrewed systems – are being produced, tested and fielded.

On October 3, the US military attacked a vessel off the coast of Venezuela for the fourth time, killing the crew of the vessel, which was suspected of smuggling drugs in the Caribbean. Kazinform's own correspondent investigated the reasons for the escalating tensions between the US and Venezuela.

Official information is tough to come by, but analysts say open questions abound about Caracas’ biggest ticket vessels.

WASHINGTON — In response to an American buildup in the Caribbean, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has pledged there is “no way” the US could invade the South American nation, as the nation was well prepared to defend its sovereignty.

And while Maduro may be handing out weapons to civilians to aid any fight on land, the potential for conflict — and the presence of US Navy ships in the region — also raises the question of Venezuelan capabilities at sea.

The power of people-to-people initiatives was on full display at the 2025 U.S Exchange Alumni Conference, held in Nukus, Republic of Karakalpakstan, Uzbekistan, on September 27-28, which one of the authors of this commentary attended. The annual event, co-organized by the U.S. Embassy in Uzbekistan, American Councils, and the Regional Alumni Representatives (RARs), provided an opportunity for approximately 100 Uzbek former participants in U.S. exchange programs to share their experiences and discuss the ongoing impact on their professional and personal lives.

The 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly is over, and the familiar churn of speeches will fuel analysts for weeks. But Astana isn’t waiting on New York.

In his State of the Nation address, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev set out a domestic agenda for the second half of the decade—an attempt to steer Kazakhstan through a volatile era by marrying digital transformation with targeted investment and institutional reform. “The world has entered a new historical era,” he warned, one that will test governments that fail to adapt.
