The defense company RTX announced on 8 September a US$205 million award from the US Navy for the continued production of the Phalanx Close-In Weapon System (CIWS). ZM spoke with RTX about the importance of this award and the company’s interest in supplying Phalanx to Latin American navies and armies.

The RTX spokesperson argued, “Latin American navies seeking to enhance their maritime security and protect critical assets can benefit from the Phalanx system.” The system features “advanced radar and gun technology, which provides rapid detection, tracking, and engagement of incoming threats,” the company told ZM, adding, “its ease of integration into existing platforms and minimal maintenance requirements make it an ideal choice for navies operating in diverse and challenging environments.”

La empresa de defensa RTX anunció el 8 de septiembre un contrato por US$205 millones con la Armada de los Estados Unidos para la producción continua del sistema de armas de corto alcance Phalanx (CIWS). Zona Militar conversó con RTX sobre la importancia de este contrato y el interés de la compañía en suministrar el Phalanx a armadas y ejércitos de América Latina.

 

Un portavoz de RTX señaló: “Las armadas latinoamericanas que busquen mejorar su seguridad marítima y proteger activos críticos pueden beneficiarse del sistema Phalanx”. El sistema incorpora “tecnología avanzada de radar y cañón, lo que permite la detección, seguimiento y enfrentamiento rápido de amenazas entrantes”, indicó la compañía a ZM, agregando que “su facilidad de integración en plataformas existentes y sus mínimos requerimientos de mantenimiento lo convierten en una opción ideal para armadas que operan en entornos diversos y exigentes”.

Loď bolo možné zastaviť, a tak použitie sily vyvoláva otázky, či Američania porušili medzinárodné právo a vlastné zákony. Senior officers and representatives from the US Army, US Air Force and US Navy emphasised the need to expedite acquisition projects for systems and platforms that are more modular. They also highlighted that the loss of equipment is acceptable.

The 2025 Emerging Technologies for Defense conference in Washington, DC, organised by the National Defense Industrial Association, featured US military officers, government officials and representatives from the defence industrial complex discussing the future of combat and new acquisition strategies of the US armed forces.

El astillero estadounidense Metal Shark entregó el buque de patrulla costera cercana (NCPV) Arcturus, CG-114, a la Armada de la República Dominicana. La nave es el séptimo NCPV construido por el astillero para aliados de Estados Unidos en el Gran Caribe.

The US Shipyard Metal Shark has delivered the Near Coastal Patrol Vessel (NCPV) Arcturus, CG-114, to the Navy of the Dominican Republic (Armada de República Dominicana). The ship is the seventh NCPV built by the shipyard for US allies across the Greater Caribbean.

The Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) has a new, permanent home. In early July, the organization inaugurated its headquarters in the capital, Astana, with Kazakhstani President Kassym-Jomart Tokayevpresiding over the ceremony.

In a region crowded with regional blocs, it’s challenging for any organization to stand out, especially one as broad and inclusive as CICA. Yet the organization continues to promote dialogue through small-scale initiatives among its diverse members. 

For Kazakhstan, hosting CICA reflects the country’s multi-vector foreign policy aimed at strengthening and enhancing its international image, cultivating global partnerships, and positioning itself as a regional champion of peace and dialogue.
